Pirates skate past Rangers, reclaim WSC tourney

It was that time of the season again for the Rocky River hockey team. And while it didn\'t go totally as planned, the Pirates still managed to take home some hardware. After playing seven games in two different tournaments in a three day span, the Pirates took the ice Monday morning and turned away a determined Lakewood squad, 8-1, to reclaim the West Shore Conference Tournament championship at Hamilton Ice Arena. It was the third win in as many WSC championship games for the Pirates, who were coming off a tough 2-0 Sunday night loss to Holy Name in the Walsh Jesuit Invitational at the Kent State Ice Arena. Demons top Bulldogs on way to SWC tourney title

The Westlake hockey team was putting together a run at the right time. The Demons imposed their will against Olmsted Falls Saturday night and defeated the Bulldogs, 7-1, at the North Olmsted Recreation Center to win their seventh straight. The victory put Westlake in the finals of the Southwestern Conference tournament Sunday against Brecksville. It was the second time the Demons had defeated Olmsted Falls by a 7-1 score this season. Pirates come alive in second period, top Mustangs

Through the first period of play, Strongsville and Rocky River skated to a scoreless tie as both teams found the scoring opportunities few and far between. That all changed in the second period. The Pirates exploded for six goals in the period and went on to earn a convincing 8-1 win over the visiting Mustangs Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Ice Arena.
