River girls top the field, win Avon Reynolds Relays
The Rocky River girls track and field team won four events to take the team title in the annual Avon Reynolds Relays Saturday. Host Avon took runner-up honors in the boys’ competition.
Rocky River scored 94 points to top the girls’ 11-team field, with Highland taking second with 77 points and Avon third with 72. Wadsworth amassed 118 points to claim the boys’ title, with Avon winning three events and scoring 106. Avon Lake finished third in the 10-team field with 67 points.

Westlake track & field teams race past Avon Lake
Westlake swept Avon Lake in a Southwestern Conference track and field meet Wednesday afternoon. The Demon boys came out on top 76-47, while the girls scored an 85-51 win.

Westshore athletes shine at annual Ranger Relays
Despite some brutal weather conditions, a number of Westshore track and field athletes turned in winning performances at Friday’s Ranger Relays in Lakewood.
In the teams standings, North Royalton took the title with 102 points, followed closely by Westlake with 96. Berea took the boys team championship with 121 points, while North Royalton took runner-up honors with 93.

Track: Area athletes make their way to state meet
As usual, a strong contingent of high school track and field athletes from the Westshore area will be competing this weekend at the OHSAA Track and Field Championships at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
The area’s best will compete in the two-day even, which begins Friday morning at 9:30 when Bay’s Marek Mutch competes in the Division II pole vault. All the other action will be in Division I, with running event semifinals...

PR Watch: Conference, district meets on horizon
With the high school track and field season moving into May, athletes and teams are gearing up for their respective conference meets as well as the district and regional meets.
The Southwestern Conference Championships will begin Wednesday, May 9 and conclude with the finals on Friday, May 11 at the Richard S. Cooley Track in Amherst. The action both days begins at 4:30 p.m.
The West Shore Conference Championships will be hosted by Avon at the Avon Middle School facility on the same days and the same times...

PR Watch: Bierut, River girls get off to strong start
It has been a solid start to the 2012 track and field season for the Rocky River girls squad.
The Pirates have faced tough competition the past two weeks, running in the Miele Invitational and the Comet Relays. They finished third in the Miele behind Medina and Chardon, then took fourth at Amherst behind Brunswick, Medina and Mentor.
At Miele, River senior Elyse Beirut set a new meet record in the 3200 with her time of 10:51.57. That eclipsed the old time of 10:59.38 set by Magnificat’s Abby Fischer...
