Through the first five innings, it was anybody's ballgame as Lakewood and Olmsted Falls battled for a Division I sectional championship.
With one swing of the bat, Collin Romel changed all that.
Romel belted a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning, his third hit of the game, to power the visiting Bulldogs to a 9-2 win over the Rangers. It was his second home run of the season and pushed his RBI total to 22 on the season.
Nate Krogh added a 2-run double and Ryan Hanna added three hits for Olmsted Falls, which advanced to next week's district tournament at Lorain's Pipe Yard. On the mound, Anthony Savarino (5-2) went the distance, striking out 10.
The Bulldogs will take on St. Edward Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a district semifinal game. The other semifinal at 4:30 p.m. will feature Avon vs. Amherst. Avon, the tournament's top seed, advanced with a 5-0 win over North Olmsted, while Amherst blanked Westlake 7-0.
