The Bay Rockets volleyball team celebrated Senior Night with an impressive 26-24, 25-17, 25-20 win over rival Rocky River to close out the 2013 regular season. The two teams also joined forces to raise money and awareness in the fight against breast cancer with a successful Volley For The Cure Night
With the win, Bay clinched a second place tie for second place in the West Shore Conference with a 9-5 record. Lakewood also finished second in the conference with its 22-25, 12-25, 25-19, 25-23, 15-11 win over Avon.
Senior middle hitter Bridget Durham led the Rockets with 13 kills, four service aces and eight blocks. Savannah Skelly had 11 kills and 13 digs, while junior setter Megan Lowery dished out 30 assists.
Bay junior Laura Wilson registered 15 digs, setting a new school record with 285 for the season.
For Rocky River, senior outside hitter Mary Kate Krajcer led the way with nine kills, while sophomore middle hitter Justine Coffman chipped in with six kills and three blocks. Senior setter Minday Kurz had 23 assists for the Pirates, who finished their WSC season at 8-6.
Now it's on to the OHSAA Sectional Tournament for volleyball teams throughout Ohio. Here's a list of where and when the Westshore area's teams will be playing this coming week:
