The Rocky River swim and dive team opened the 2012-13 season this week by hosting Westlake. The Pirates got off to a solid start, as the girls team won 122-64 and the boys came out of the pool with a 100-83 decision.

In the girls meet, River won 11 of the 12 events. Emma Flynn had a strong performance, competing on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relays while winning the 50 freestyle in 26.07 and the 100 butterfly in 1:02.57. Haley Rosiak also had four wins, competing in two winning relays and taking the 500 free and 200 free.

Flynn, along with Hallie McCue, Lauren Devorace and anchor Megan Jaite, won the 200 medley relay in 1:56.85. The 400 free relay of McCue, Rosiak, Devorace and Flynn came in first at 3:23.89. The Pirates also won the 200 free relay as Rosiak, Rachel Salzburg, Elizabeth Weger and Jaite turned in a time of 1:49.24.

Other winners in the girls meet were:

200 Freestyle: Rosiak, Rocky River, 2:06.15. Second place went to Nora Lee of Westlake with her 2:11.80.

200 IM: Deviance, Rocky River, 2:18.03. Second place went to Ana Ivkovic of Westlake with her 2:30.35.

50 Freestyle: Flynn. Second place went to Jaite with her time of 27.05.

Diving: Ryleigh Macalla, Rocky River, 192.44. Second place Amanda Oster, Rocky River, 157.56.

100 Butterfly: Flynn. Second place went to Ivkovic with her time of 1:05.79.

100 Freestyle: Rebecca Prexta, Westlake, 57.24. Second place went to McCue with her time of 57.28 in a tight race.

500 Freestyle: Rosiak, 5:37.78. Second place went to Lee with her time of 5:50.86.

100 Backstroke: McCue, 1:01.87. Second place, Prexta, 1:06.06.

100 Breaststroke: Devorace, 1:14.20. Second, Amanda Burgess of Rocky River, 1:21.80.

In the boys meet, the team competition was much closer. The Pirates won seven of the 12 events, including a sweep of the relays.

Eric Salberg, Chris Grant, Sam Stankivicz and Eric Kanner won the 200 medley relay in 1:47.55, while John Armour, Kevin Mahoney, Spencer Sheehan and kanner took the 200 free relay with a 1:44.54. Salberg, Stankivicz, Armour and Grant topped off the night with a win in the 400 free relay in 3:39.10.

In the rest of the boys meet:

200 Freestyle: Jake Bechtel, Westlake, 2:03.12. Second, Stankivicz, 2:05.17.

200 IM: Grant, 2:17.14. Second Kevin Waitrovich, Westlake, 2:21.07.

50 Freestyle: Alex Lamorgese, Westlake, 23.59. Second place was Kanner with a time of 24.10.

Diving: Ian Bokas, Rocky River, 165.21. Second was Dominic Campo of Westlake with his 118.12.

100 Butterfly: Stankivicz, 58.67. Second was Collin Hughes of Westlake with a time of 1:02.52.

100 Freestyle: Lamorgese, 52.83. Second place was Salberg with a 53.10.

500 Freestyle: Armour, 5:40.02. Hughes was next to the wall with his 5:57.53.

100 Backstroke: Joe Knurek, Westlake, 1:00.30. Salberg took second with his 1:03.26.

10 Breaststroke: Waitrovich, 1:09.34. Grant came in second with his 1:09.66.
