| Vermilion decides to leave WSC, moving into NOL |
 It looks as if the West Shore Conference will be looking for new members again.
On Tuesday morning, officials from the Northern Ohio League announced they had voted to accept Vermilion’s membership application, according to published reports. That move was confirmed Wednesday afternoon by Vermilion superintendent Phil Pempin and school board member Dale Dawson during interviews with The Westshore Sports Fanatic!

 It’s been a tough season for the Bay boys basketball team. But as it turned out, the Rockets had their say in the West Shore Conference race.
Friday night, senior Bryan Lowrie drilled a 3-pointer to beat the buzzer and give Bay a thrilling 54-51 home-court win over Avon. The loss, combined with Midview’s 61-49 win over Vermilion, eliminated the Eagles from title contention.

| Berg, Pirate girls find a way against Twinsburg |
 Some how, some way, the Rocky River girls soccer team was going to find the back of the net and win its season opener against visiting Twinsburg.
Pirates head coach Patrick Hopkins was sure of it. He just wasn’t sure how.

| Demons open with narrow win over Brunswick |
 With senior forward Andy Haders scoring two goals in the game’s first 10 minutes, it looked as if Westlake would have a relatively easy time with visiting Brunswick.
They didn’t.
The Blue Devils made things interesting in the 48th minute with a goal on a penalty kick, but the Demon defense proved solid the rest of the way in a 2-1 decision Monday night at Reed Field. |

 Thursday night’s Southwestern Conference volleyball match between Westlake and North Olmsted featured two teams looking for consistency in their respective games.

| Pirate girls hold off Bay in WSC Preview Meet |
 The Rocky River girls cross country team is expecting big things in 2011. The same thing could be said for an up-and-coming Bay squad.
Both teams dominated the field Saturday at Cahoon Park, with the Pirates holding off the young Rockets, 33-32, in the West Shore Conference Preview Meet.

 After two years of growing their programs from scratch, the Avon and Westlake hockey teams are taking the next step in their development.
