The Brecksville girls and the Amherst boys went into last weekend’s Southwestern Conference Swimming and Diving Championships as the favorites after dominating the regular season meets.

Saturday’s meet at the Westlake Recreation Center confirmed those expectations.

Amherst, with five first-place finishes, scored 268 points to get past host Westlake’s 230 and win the boys title. Brecksville was even more dominant in the girls meet. The Bees won seven events on the way to 353 points, topping Westlake’s 313.

Here are the top three finishers in each event for both meets:

Girls

Team Standings: 1. Brecksville 353, 2. Westlake 313, 3. Berea 187, 4. North Olmsted 174, 5. Olmsted Falls 151, 6. Amherst 119, 7. Avon Lake 98, 8. Midpark 1.

Diving: Westlake senior Sammie Sposet won the championship Friday night with a final score of 434.90 to get past Brecksville’s Michelle Moock (377.15). Westlake’s Julie Solarz finished third with her score of 296.30.

Diving: Midpark’s Nate Harper took the championship Friday night with a final score of 398.90, with Tyler Nock of Avon Lake taking runner-up honors with a 372.85. North Olmsted’s Steven Davis was third with his score of 301.75.
